Anthony Edward Loehr, M.D., 77, passed away on January 28, 2024. He was born in
Fort Hood, Texas, on March 8, 1946, to Louise and Adolph Loehr. After graduating from
high school in Miami, Oklahoma, in 1964, as a Miami High School Wardog, he attended
Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College on a football scholarship. After two years at NEO,
Tony transferred to the University of Oklahoma to attend the accelerated
pre-med program. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in 1971.
Dr. Loehr interned at the University of Washington Hospitals in Seattle, Washington.
He completed his otolaryngology residency at the University of Colorado in Denver in 1976. Returning to Oklahoma in 1977, he joined Eastern Oklahoma Ear, Nose & Throat, Tulsa, where he practiced medicine for over 46 years.
Dr. Loehr had an unending devotion to his practice of medicine and was a voracious, continuous learner. He dedicated his life to his patients and loved his time in the operating room and clinic, especially treating trauma patients and complex cases. He had a passion for fitness and healthy living, particularly tennis, biking, running, and finding the best turkey burger in town. He had a serious sweet tooth for oatmeal cookies and always had a pocket full of hard candies. He was an avid outdoorsman and athlete whose accomplishments included running the New York City Marathon, the Pikes Peak Marathon, and climbing Mount Rainier in Washington State. He treasured the special memories of the fun adventures he had with his brother, John, at Mount Rainier National Park.
Dr. Loehr was admired by his peers and known to many as the often quiet and stoic presence in any room. His wisdom and deep knowledge of medicine will be missed by many. He had a huge heart that endured devastating heartbreak with the death of his daughter, Gabriella.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Oeltjen; and daughter, Marleny Gabriella Loehr. He is survived by his daughters, Allison Loehr and Erica Loehr, and son, Tanner Loehr. He is also survived by his stepmother, Nancy Loehr, of Miami, Oklahoma; uncle, Ronnie Loehr, of Canon City, Colorado; brother, John Loehr and his wife, Renee, of Ronan, Montana; brother, Randy Loehr and his wife, Debbie, of Paris, Texas; and many beloved extended family members.
